WORK EXPERIENCE

After matriculating I worked as a clerk at the then Transvaal Provincial Administration for 11 months.

-1995: Further teaching experience includes evening classes to school children while completing my Fine Arts Degree at the University of Pretoria. I also presented a craft activity at a student camp run by Land Service in 1992. Students were taught wood printing and mask making. I presented a similar activity to learners coming from particularly challenging social backgrounds in 1993.

On completion of my BA (FA) degree, I managed a coffee shop before working at Savannah Interiors. As the assistant to the Interior Decorator, I was expected to fulfil clerical and design work, planning, overseeing and assisting with the installation of interiors. This also involved problem solving when installations became problematical on site. I also had to build good working relationships with co-workers, suppliers, representatives and installation staff. I remained at Savannah Interiors for 20 months.

-2001: During my postgraduate studies, I worked at Dorp Street Gallery, again managing minor clerical work, liasing with artists, as well as patrons, and assisting at exhibition openings. My experience in Interior Decorating was used in shop dressing and display at this Gallery, and other shops such as ERA in Stellenbosch. During this period I also attended the Dorp Street Gallery stall at the Decorex exhibition at Spier in 1999.

-2003: In my final year of postgraduate study, I commenced teaching at Rustenburg High School for Girls in Cape Town. I taught Art, Textile and Graphic Design as well as Art history to Gr. 8-12. In 2003 I started teaching OBE Arts and Culture, to Gr. 8 and 9.
